The REAL Framework

Our REAL
Approach

Our REAL Framework has its origins in the four conditions – Respect, Engage, Align and Lead – that are present and integral to the culture of successful organizations. That’s why we use it in every client engagement. It is the lens through which we examine your challenges, identify opportunities and create solutions to strengthen your people foundation.

respect

The REAL Framework

Respect

Respect in the workplace is the foundation of a healthy culture, and it starts at the top. Effective leaders treat each individual employee with dignity, irrespective of their place in the organization, and demonstrate this by valuing their unique perspectives through inclusion and an investment in their growth and development. Employees who are respected feel valued and more inclined to contribute their discretionary energy and time to achieving the organization’s goals.

The REAL Framework

Engagement

Respect as the predicate for greater employee engagement is well-documented. The Harvard Business Review (2018) found that respect was the number one behavior, above all others, that would lead to greater employee engagement and commitment. By fostering respect, organizations experience higher levels of employee engagement and feel valued and appreciated for their contributions. This, in turn, leads to increased job satisfaction, lower turnover rates, and a more harmonious workplace (Spring Health, Jan. 8, 2021).

alignment

The REAL Framework

Alignment

Respect permeates an organization when its stated values align how the organization operates. At T. H. Easter Consulting, this begins with a review of the organization’s values, its leaders’ commitment to them, and how they are lived through the organization’s communications, systems for accountability and commitment to employee growth and development. But for most organizations to be truly successful in the achievement of their missions and priorities, they must go further and align their most valuable asset – their people – with the organization’s goals. When employees clearly understand the organization’s mission and goals and recognize their role in both, they are more engaged and motivated to achieve and exceed every goal.

The REAL Framework

Leadership

Finally, while respect for employees is foundational to engagement, it is a two-way street. Employees must respect their leaders. For this reason, leaders must do all they can to earn and maintain that respect. They do this by operating with integrity, communicating with transparency and humility, and making decisions guided by what is in the best interests of their customers and their people. Respect is the start but leading with integrity brings with it the benefits of a loyal and dedicated workforce. This kind of engagement creates the stickiness that will make any employee think twice about looking for another job.
