A Timeline of Changes in America

Responding to Organizational Impacts

Since its inception, T. H. Easter Consulting has ridden a tumultuous wave of social events that have challenged us, to help people and organizations navigate these challenges. Learn how we helped our clients respond to change with resilience and strength.

The Great Recession

The global financial crisis exacerbated long-term trends including rising student debt and stagnant wages leaving the public with a sense that the system is broken.

Decline of Trust in Institutions

Social, demographic, and technological changes swept across the US, and with those changes came important shifts in government policy and public opinion, leading to feelings of uncertainty and deteriorating trust in institutions.

Technology & GenZ

Disruption in how we work, who is working, differing expectations, communication immediacy, blurring of the personal and the professional.

Black Lives Matter

Shootings of Black people like Trayvon Martin, Freddie Gray, Charleston church and Breonna Taylor. A racial reckoning in America.

Violence in America

Sandy Hook, Uvalde, Aurora, Las Vegas massacre, Parkland, Pulse nightclub. Themes - racism, homophobia, isolation, alienation of white male in society.

MeToo

Women come forward - Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Les Moonves, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer, R. Kelly, Louis C.K., Mario Batali.

Covid

Remote work, Gen Z entry into work disrupted, changed expectations for work, hybrid workplaces, implications for engagement, how to manage remotely, etc.

Polarization

Society becomes increasingly polarized - through partisanship, political violence, election interference, and news audience dispersion. We are increasingly losing the idea of a shared reality and facts. These divisions and differing perceptions permeate the workplace.

The Backlash

Increased polarization plus the inflationary hangover of the pandemic creates resentment in search of a target. The resulting cultural backlash to these hardships is evidenced and exacerbated by greater restrictions on abortion rights, LGBTQ rights and immigration.
